Senior UX Designer - Design System ( Location Flexible)

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer - Design System with hands-on sketching, designing, and customer experience mapping skills. This person will be a key member of the Experience Research & Design team and report directly to the UX Manager. The ideal fit is someone who can problem solve at a fast pace with curiosity, determination, and quality.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Design System expert:
    • Collaborate with other designers, researchers, product analysts, and developers to create thoughtful and scalable solutions that support the UX needs of a multifaceted ecommerce solution.
    • Design and maintain components, patterns, and related documentation for JCPenney's Lincoln Design System (LDS).
    • Work closely with engineering to ensure a quality design system that enables Product to release experiences efficiently and at scale.
    • Create documentation and guidelines describing design system usage and best practices.
  • Passionately advocate for the power of design systems:
    • Help other team members use the design system effectively.
    • Help facilitate design system trainings and the development of related materials.
    • Provide input to design system intake and governance processes.
  • Be a good partner:
    • Help elevate the team's system thinking skills through pair design, design critique, and workshops to ensure we're delivering a consistent and trusted experience.
    • Build close relationships with your peers in the design and research organization, proactively soliciting their feedback to improve your work, collectively defining, and upholding an integrated, holistic experience across our products and touchpoints.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • 5+ years of UX or Interaction Design experience
  • 3+ years of design system experience
  • Portfolio examples of sketches, workflows, interactions, and end state work
  • Education and/or work experience in User Experience Design, Human Computer Interaction or related fields
  • Experience with collaborative design methods such as Design Sprints, Design Studios, etc.
  • Thoughtfully articulate design decisions and rationale
  • Must be fluent with the Figma design application
  • A good understanding of HTML, CSS, web accessibility, and responsive design
  • Highly adaptable with a desire to learn
  • Perform well within an Agile software design and development environment
