Senior Communications Manager

The Senior Communication Manager will lead the concept creation, writing and execution of key messaging throughout Corporate Communications vehicles, with a heavy focus on internal communications. Approach should aim to inform, engage, and inspire associates through clear and compelling communication and creative engagement strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Partner with key departments to shape and execute internal communications support across various channels ranging from executive memos, company-wide communications, scripts for live townhalls and videos, feature stories for internal website and recurring newsletters.
  • Serve as the primary partner to the HR function to develop end-to end communications for key areas that support the enterprise, including but not limited to learning and development, compensation and benefits, work policies, talent acquisition, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with Philanthropy, Inclusion and Diversity and business resource teams to create cohesive internal and external-facing communications that amplify JCPenney's mission, engage and energize associates and excite our loyal customers.
  • Oversee the creation of our company-wide internal newsletter and serve as the chief editor for our internal website, ensuring uniformity and adherence to JCPenney Company guidelines and branding initiatives in print and online vehicles. Uphold Corporate Communications policies and procedures to ensure integrity and consistency of communications.
  • Demonstrate exceptional judgement, agility and thought partnership when collaborating with senior stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate around current vehicles/initiatives based on upkeep of performance metrics, regular feedback from stakeholders, and current knowledge of best practices.
  • Leads with initiative, resilience and ownership and actively coaches team members to develop in their skills and delivery.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Broadcast Journalism, Business Communications or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5 to 8 years of proven experience in writing, editing while producing concise and relevant content for a distributed multi-business newspaper, magazine or corporate communications team.
  • Knowledge of retail operations and business and/or experience with key executives including HR, Philanthropy, Inclusion and Diversity amongst others.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while establishing and delivering on communication goals.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and print management skills that can effectively be executed on short timelines.
  • Web posting skills or video techniques preferred.
  • Strong demonstration of teamwork, managing work, communication and cross-functional relationship building.
