Senior Manager - Data & Analytics Technology

The Senior Manager - Data & Analytics Technology will lead the Technology team that is responsible for JCPenney's Big Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence platforms, data, reporting, services, and solutions. This role will lead a team of business analysts, technical architects, data engineers, BI developers, and platform administrators. In this role, you will work closely with technology and business stakeholders across the enterprise to build, deliver, enhance, and maintain solutions. To be successful in this role, you will need to be hands-on, a thought leader in the space, and work cross functionally with our Technology and Analytics business partners.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the team that designs, develops, implements, and supports Big Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence platforms, data, reporting, services, and solutions
  • Develop and deliver Big Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence roadmaps incorporating both business and IT team demand, taking a strategic view of the work
  • Work with business partners to support the development and implementation of analytics use cases/insights
  • Lead, motivate, and manage 8 to 10 individual contributors and contractors directly to achieve results
  • Develop associates through goal setting, ongoing performance feedback, development plans, career path discussions and identification of project assignments to further develop skill sets
  • Ensure process and quality standards are achieved within the team
  • Engage and partner with other technology teams for successful project deliveries
  • Serve as an escalation point for roadblocks slowing down or impeding delivery objectives
  • Manage project financials, budget forecasts, and staffing plans
  • Identify and champion internal / external best practices, tools, and ideas to drive constant growth and innovation within the JCP Big Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence space
  • Lead and coach others to work effectively to prioritize and deliver projects and services in a strong customer-service / team-oriented environment

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • Bachelor's degree or greater in computer science or related technical field
  • 10+ years of Information Technology experience with 5+ years leading / managing teams
  • Highly motivated and self-directing leader with 4+ years of experience with large, complex enterprise Big Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence implementations
  • Excellent ability to communicate (written and verbal) with multiple levels of leadership as well as cross-functional business and technical teams
  • Retail industry experience is preferred
  • Drives results and has strong accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to stay abreast of industry trends, tools, and techniques
  • Practical experience in leading technical teams with extensive knowledge of SDLC and IT project management processes. Experience with agile software development paradigm (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
  • Experience managing project financials, budget forecasts, and staffing plans
  • Demonstrated leadership managing / leading a diverse team of people in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to have candid conversations when needed
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience with enterprise scale Big Data tools (e.g., Apache (Spark, NiFi, Sqoop, HBase, HDFS, Spark-SQL), Hadoop (Hive, Pig, Flume, YARN, Hive QL), NoSQL and relational DBs, Datameer, MapReduce)
  • Experience with SOA, IaaS, and Cloud Computing technologies, particularly in the AWS environment
  • Experience with enterprise scale data warehouse solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, OBAW)
  • Experience with enterprise scale reporting offerings (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau, Oracle BI)
