Principal Architect - Front-End Architecture

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on front-end Architect to join our Digital Engineering team to lead the front-end architecture of JCPenney.com. In this role, you’ll provide thought leadership around front-end architecture, site performance and scalability. You will lead and mentor front-end engineering teams towards engineering excellence by establishing architecture / coding standards,  implementing best practices,  and making sure our Front End Platform and Architecture are best in class. You will develop innovative technology solutions to help drive key business initaitives in an Agile environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Drive front-end architecture of JCP.com UI / Web Stack
•Lead the team’s technical direction by exploring and implementing the best in class technologies and advocating the use of best practices, libraries, and tools for front end development
•Work directly with partner engineering teams, Product Management and JCPenney business stake holders to define contracts, dependencies and communicate technical capabilities
•Collaborate with UX, product managers, devops, front & back-end developers to deliver high quality experiences
•Collaborate with distinguished architects and engineering leadership on technology roadmap and strategy.
•Troubleshoot pre and post-production functional and non-functional issues
•Stay up to date on the latest industry technology trends and practices.
•Propose new ideas and best practices to improve performance and experience of the site

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

•Strong Javascript/ES6 expertise
•Expert experience building high-performant, heavy-traffic sites using JS Frameworks (React, Angular, Ember, etc) and third party libraries
•Ability to review and provide feedback in code reviews. Design reusable components (using design patterns). Experience with unit & test driven approach to development
•Extensive experience with CSS Preprocessors (SASS, LESS, PostCSS)
•Expert knowledge of build tools (Webpack, Gulp, Grunt), and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (Jenkins, Travis)
•Experience with Restful API and API Security frameworks.
•Extensive experience in identifying opportunities to improve performance, stability, and scalability of enterprise web applications
•Work experience in Agile Scrum methodologies
•Experience building applications using Adaptive/Responsive Design Principles and leveraging various applications layers to enhance performance
•Experience with AWS cloud is preferred.
•Familiarity with Data Structures, Algorithms, and general Computer Science Fundamentals

Minimum Requirements:

•Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems, or equivalent work experience
•10+  years of experience with JavaScript framework application development; preferably 4+ years in React and/or Angular.
•5+ years of experience in technical leadership role.
