Jewelry Quality Assurance Manager

The Jewelry Quality Assurance Manager will ensure that testing, inspection and audit functions for fashion and fine jewelry are conducted per defined protocols.   The position will provide technical expertise to the fine jewelry business unit to assist with establishing product specifications, creating master samples and conducting audits to ensure product compliance.

Scope

Testing - 5000 lot numbers/year – Fashion Jewelry

Inspection  - 729 reports/year – Fine Jewelry/Watches

Master Samples – 900+ per year – Diamond and Gemstone

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategy & Communication

  • Engage with fine jewelry business unit to understand business needs and opportunities to support building quality into product.
  • Define audit and testing frequency for fine jewelry product to manage risk to JCPenney

Monitoring & Support

  • Conduct Master Sample approval process to support fine jewelry business. 
  • Collaborate with Fine Jewelry Business unit to identify product risks on emerging product trends and establish processes to monitor the product quality.
  • Monitor and review all test reports provided by third party labs to ensure report accuracy and appropriate supplier action is taken on any product not meeting JCPenney requirements.
    JCPenney testing protocols and program requirements are being followed.  Testing will include, but is not limited to, XRF metal analysis, diamond quality, and lab grown diamond monitoring.
  • Monitor and review all inspection reports provided by third party labs.   Work with business unit and suppliers to resolve all failures.
  • Provide education and training for business units related to quality standards, technical specifications and regulatory compliance including, but not limited to, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and California Lead in Jewelry Law.

Strategic Relationships

  • Partner with fine jewelry and fashion jewelry business units to support the delivery of product that meets defined quality standards.
  • Work closely with quality assurance, trade compliance, and testing/inspection teams to ensure alignment.
  • Engage in partnerships with nominated third-party service providers

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

  • Proficient knowledge of current industry accepted standards, practices and evaluation procedures related to fashion and fine jewelry
  • General understanding of testing and quality assurance processes
  • College degree in appropriate technical area or equivalent industry experience
  • Graduate Gemologist from Gemological Institute of American (GIA) or equivalent preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Good computer skills, including excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint knowledge
