Transportation Manager

The Transportation Manager Supports carrier relations activities for Dedicated Store Delivery, as assigned, to support efficient, cost effective transportation functions for Dedicated Store Delivery.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports carrier relations activities of assigned carrier area to achieve efficient, reliable, cost effective transportation functions.
  • Monitors and communicates with carriers of assigned area on agreed upon service standards to support network and business
  • requirements.
  • Assists in providing Procurement with carrier specifications and other data for their use in contract negotiation, ensuring such
  • information has integrity, is accurate, and timely.
  • Assists in the development and manages implementation of transportation initiatives to improve lead-times, costs, and service; keeps
  • manager informed of current issues within assigned area on a regular basis.
  • Manages carrier related projects and tasks of assigned area as requested, including those that cross into multiple areas within
  • Transportation, and the Supply Chain.
  • Helps to identify carrier opportunities and develop appropriate solutions; identifies and communicates carrier problems that could
  • impact the timely delivery of shipments or costs; recommends solutions to carrier problems.
  • Advises and supports Associates in Transportation Excellence and Operations teams as well as Supply Chain Operations and Supply Chain Support in the development and implementation of network strategies and execution of transportation plans for assigned area
  • Works with the Transportation Operations and Facility Transportation teams in the implementation of business plans, and support of
  • day-to-day functioning of the network.
  • Builds and maintains strong business relationships with industry contacts to ensure the Company’s best interests are optimized.
  • Works closely with managers in the Supply Chain to support overall objectives and ensure service levels of the division are met.
  • Works with Procurement Agents on issues related to carrier contract negotiations and strategic plans for assigned area.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

  • College Degree in a business discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years in the transportation industry with exposure to several freight transportation modes, especially those of assigned areas.
  • Logistics core competencies; sense of urgency, organization and follow-through;able to manager multiple tasks concurrently.
