Compensation Analyst - Executive Compensation

The Executive Compensation Analyst will assist in the administration of JCPenney's compensation strategy. Candidate should possess strong analytical skills and ability to navigate through ambiguity. Reports to the Manager, Executive Compensation at JCPenney’s Home Office.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze proxy and other publicly-available data to spot trends, changes, and new executive compensation programs in the market place.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of Compensation Committee materials and work with the consultants retained by the Compensation Committee.
  • Evaluate executive positions and develop appropriate compensation recommendations.
  • Assists with research, surveys, and studies directed toward the development of current pay plans and compensation standards.
  • Monitor new or pending legislation that may impact executive pay programs, including accounting, tax, and other related laws and regulations to ensure program compliance and to influence overall design.
  • Prepare information and reports regarding executive compensation for the Company’s public filings, including the proxy statement, 10-K, footnote disclosures, and other ad-hoc reporting and disclosure requirements related to executive pay.
  • Collaborate with internal partners, including Legal, Tax, Accounting, Finance, and Payroll. Provide guidance on executive compensation programs to HR partners.
  • Support administration of company-wide programs such as equity compensation, long-term incentive compensation, and other programs as assigned.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses and research project work as assigned.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in business administration, human resource management, finance, or statistics is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years in Human Resources; 1-2 years in executive compensation with focus on long-term and equity incentives preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in benchmarking, compensation theory, and incentive plan administration. Knowledge of tax, regulatory, and accounting requirements applicable to executive compensation programs.
  • Core competencies in verbal and written communication, financial analysis, organizing work, building relationships and aligning with the needs of the business, and influencing others.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact on a cross-functional level (e.g. legal, tax, accounting, communication) to successfully administer executive compensation plans.
  • Must have high attention to detail and excellent organization skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, advanced Excel skills. Specifically, an ability to work with files containing large amounts of data.
