Position Title – Intermediate Level Software Engineer (DCM) – Merchandise Allocation and Optimization

The Allocation and Optimization Software Engineer will be primarily responsible for the configuration and upkeep of the Teradata DCM application and will also provide development expertise on other applications as needed. Working on key projects through all phases of the SDLC, they will help shape the future vision, solution architecture, and roadmap of COTS and internally developed IT systems in the Merchandise Allocation & Optimization portfolio. 


Software Engineer Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to all phases of the software development process to design, build, test, deploy, and maintain essential applications and integrations with a focused and consistent approach across technology stacks for medium to large complexity efforts in the Merchandise Allocation and Optimization portfolio. 

  • Create, oversee, or peer review functional and non-functional requirements documents, solution architecture, design specifications, test plans & results, and deploy plans to ensure accuracy and effectiveness. Execute or direct application development team tasks. Support testing activities.  

  • Own and maintain relationships with business partners, vendors, and technical teams to ensure the timely and accurate completion of project deliverables.  

  • Expert IT technical subject matter expert for Merchandise Allocation and Optimization portfolio. Assist with escalated production support activities. Manage non-production environments, applications, integrations, data needs for various development projects and infrastructure changes.  

  • Help define a technology and process improvement roadmap that maximizes IT and business performance and reduces total cost of ownership.  

  • Coordinate sourcing of new hardware/software, licensing & maintenance, budgeting and forecasting, portfolio metrics, change management, security & compliance and partnership with shared services to achieve the business objectives and goals.  


Ideal candidate will have demonstrated the following skills/experience/competencies: 

  • 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer/Developer following structured development methodologies on multiple complex projects with various team sizes and duration, accountable for delivering high quality solutions within tight timelines and budgets.  

  • Hands-on experience with Design, Build, and Maintenance of Teradata Demand Chain Management and Teradata Data Warehouse. Experience with DCM reporting module configuration is a plus. Knowledge of other Retail COTS packages is beneficial (such as JDA Allocation or SAS Size Optimization). 

  • Has successfully configured and deployed a major release of Teradata DCM (advanced knowledge of how DCM functions, capabilities, limitations, risks, and performance tuning) and has implemented upgrades and patches.  

  • Candidate should hold an advanced certification from Teradata Professional Training Program. Must have extensive Teradata DB knowledge and Strong experience with following ETL process with good understanding of Extraction/Loading usingTeradataUtility and transformation using BTEQ. Substantial experience and success in Teradata performance improvement. Hands-on experience of Unix shell scripting and writing complex SQL queries.  

  • Understands typical DCM system integrations (ideally via Informatica) and is capable of directing the development of integrations by a separate team.  

  • Proficiency in quickly diagnosing and resolving critical deficiencies through skillful analysis, troubleshooting, optimization, and performance tuning of software within complex applications.  

  • Availability to provide after-hours or on-call support to meet production service levels or critical project deadlines and/or participate in calls with team members in distant time zones.  

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with minimal supervision.  

  • Experience in providing reliable cost and schedule estimates for a variety of technical projects.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex ideas/issues or instructions to others with varying levels of expertise in non-technical, understandable terms. 

  • Building and maintaining relationships with cross-functional IT support teams, vendors, and business partners comprising different cultures and remote locations.  

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field(s) 

  • Proficient in the use of Visio, MS-Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
