Senior Engineer - Performance Engineering

The Senior Engineer will provide architecture & technical leadership to the Digital Platform Enterprise Performance team. The principle purpose of Senior Engineer-Performance Engineering is  to collaborate with teams in finding, isolating, and addressing the source of performance issues and optimization opportunities. In addition, to help in Capacity Planning to ensure that applications and infrastructure meet current and future performance needs. And automate and enhance performance testing, monitoring, and reporting using frameworks such as Jenkins, GIT, JMeter, Splunk, Dynatrace  etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • 7+ years of experience in performance testing, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting metrics for pre-production and production environments for high volume transaction oriented applications; retail ecommerce strongly preferred
  • Hands on experience working on microservice application architecture deployed on Cloud IaaS like AWS
  • Good knowledge of NetFlix OSS based on Docker Swarm/Kubernetes/Mesos
  • Demonstrate competence with JMeter, BlazeMeter, or similar tools like SOASTA CloudTest, HP LoadRunner
  • Experience with CA Wily, Dynatrace, AppDynamics (or similar APM tools) application performance diagnostics profiling, bottleneck identification and root cause analysis
  • Experience using tools like Splunk, ELK, Sumologic etc. for application log monitoring and analysis
  • Good working knowledge of distributed systems, web infrastructure and protocols, network architectures and distributed transaction processing
  • Demonstrate competence with basic programming in Java/Python and UNIX shell scripting
  • Strong knowledge of Java Code and Java memory management (JVM) – Heap memory, garbage collection and thread analysis
  • Understanding of Front End Page Performance and experience in tuning 
  • Experience with Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetic Monitoring using WebPageTest, SiteSpeed and /or similar tools/framewors
  • Ability to effectively communicate and escalate issues to team leads, managers and executives on technical and business issues relating to performance
  • Understanding of CDN like Akamai, Fastly and API Gateways like Apigee

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

  • Experience in Peak Readiness activities - Stabilize production and ensure stability and high performance before peak events
  • Experience with Cassandra  (or similar) database platforms, query languages, performance monitoring and basic administration
  • Experience with java-based web frameworks (Spring, Struts, etc.)
  • Knowledge of application monitoring and profiling tools: Yourkit, VisualVM, JProfiler, etc.
  • Ecommerce experience
