Principal Architect - Omnichannel Pricing and Item

The Principal Architect will report to Technology Director – Omnichannel Item and Pricing and will be part of the team that is responsible for Application portfolio management and development that focuses on building and configuring software solutions leveraging Merchandising, Pricing and Item systems. This entails: (1) strategizing, roadmap planning, selecting, architecting/designing, building and implementing technology solutions to solve complex business problems.(2) portfolio management for entire suite of business applications (3) actively managing the on-going health and supportability of the portfolio in alignment with IT Ops & Support, (4) managing the cost, contracts, and licensing associated with the portfolio, (5) partnering with other technology and business teams to deliver enterprise wide end to end technology solutions for JCPenney.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead roadmap, technology evaluation, architecture, design, build, total cost of ownership, scope management, process improvement, for large scale cross-functional enterprise wide projects/programs through all phases of the SDLC.
  • Expert and point-of-contact in core technical capabilities, processes, and applications for the retail merchandising, Item and pricing portfolio.
  • Drive portfolio ownership by working with users and business executives to understand strategies and operations to develop technology capability roadmaps that are aligned with business/domain roadmaps.
  • Lead and drive the conversation for long rang business capability and architecture plans.
  • Demonstrates breadth and depth of techniques and tools for one or many of the following: product selection, technical score carding, architecture evaluation, use case modeling, data modeling, process mapping, performance and system scalability and scalability.
  • Define and govern architecture principles & standards to build maintainable, scalable, high performing and secured business systems
  • Provides advisory consulting to business and IT executives as portfolio technical architect and consultant.
  • Provides mentorship and coaching to engineer and architects. Work with geographically diverse locations.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

  • Experience implementing Merchandising, Pricing and Item systems: Oracle RMS, other packages and custom development using web based, ecommerce, cloud architecture and micro-services.
  • Extensive experience in architecting and deploying web-based and cloud-enabled business applications, and must possess experience in distributed architectures and platforms, creating, designing for scalability and performance, and implementing large-scale customer facing capabilities.
  • Must have previous experience working to define, evaluate, prioritize, and roadmap initiatives.
  • Expertise in integration patterns with various internal and external systems.
  • Ability to design highly available systems with fallback capability.
  • Experience developing and leveraging relationships across cross-functional teams and organizations
  • Experience influencing organizational decision making both formally and informally
  • Expertise in business process mapping, fit-gap analysis, business process re-engineering
  • Ability to lead end to end business processes and support business teams on the technology solutions
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with ability to function at both the conceptual as well as detail levels
  • Ability to keep calm during a period of crisis and to provide the leadership and direction required to resolve the issue. Can perform independently with minimal supervision and make decisions in ambiguity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 10-15 years’ work experience, is required.
