General Description

POS App Dev Advanced Engineer 

The JCPenney Stores IT Development team is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join the Point of Sale (POS) application development team. This position will be responsible for implementing new project related features in the company’s standard and mobile POS platforms in addition to other applications operating within the store environment. This position will be working in a fast paced agile software development environment with multiple short delivery cycles. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Develop and maintain mission critical applications in JCP’s 1000 stores including Point of Sale classic and mobile applications. 

  • Drive large and complex solutions, including coordinating sourcing of new hardware/software with procurement, licensing & maintenance strategy, portfolio metrics, change management, security & compliance and partnership with shared services to achieve the business objectives and goals. 

  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to other engineers and architects across the organization. Partner and communicate cross-functionally across the enterprise. 

  • Support testing processes, work with team members to resolve issues, and assure high quality code by always maintaining an operations mindset 

  • Drive the continuous evolution of best practices within the development team 

  • Define and document technical design and architecture and ensure alignment with enterprise standards 

  • Integrate with various enterprise class services using industry standard service-based architectures 

  • Define and implement software using established design patterns, industry best practices and enterprise standards 

  • Provide technical guidance and implementation for projects dealing with cross-team dependencies, rapid schedules and a constant evolving business environment 

  • Own and drive multiple initiatives with high quality and on-time delivery 

  • Perform on call duties on rotation with other developers when required 

 

 

Core Competencies & Accomplishments: 

  • Application development experience using .NET 4.0 and higher, C#, ASP.NET/MVC 

  • SQL Server experience using include schema design, stored procedures, and ad-hoc queries. Experience with large volumes of data preferred. 

  • Proficient use of testing frameworks such as MSTest or NUnit and mocking frameworks 

  • Proficient in integrating with source control frameworks such as Subversion and Git. 

  • Passion for object oriented programming methodologies / enterprise application design patterns 

  • Demonstrated experience in a service oriented environment using a variety methods (i.e. WCF/SOAP/REST/XML) 

  • Automated build and continuous integration experience preferred 

  • Highly motivated, with a desire to learn new technologies and architectures 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain complex ideas to others with varying levels of expertise 

  • Development experience for retail and/or mission critical applications is preferred 

  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing team members through coaching. 

  • Experience working as part of an agile/scrum team in coordination with multiple scrum teams in an onshore/offshore model preferred. 

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field 

 

 

This role will work within an accomplished team of software/quality engineers that operate at a very fast pace. Travel is not required.
