Software Engineer – Application Portfolio Mgmt & Development/Merchandise Planning

The Software Engineer will report to Senior Manager – Merchandise Planning and will be part of the team that is responsible for building and configuring software solutions supporting Merchandise Planning and Design.  This entails:  (1) strategizing, roadmap planning, selecting, architecting/designing, building and implementing technology solutions to solve complex business problems.(2) portfolio management for entire business applications suite (3) actively managing the on-going health and supportability of the portfolio in alignment with IT Ops & Support, (4) managing the cost, contracts, and licensing associated with the portfolio, (5) partnering with other IT and business teams to deliver end to end technology solutions for JCPenney. The team provides IT solutions to multiple business clients, primarily from Merchandise Planning & Allocation and Product Design & Sourcing teams.  This portfolio includes multiple COTS packages and internally-written applications.    

 

Critical Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Create, oversee, or peer review functional and non-functional requirements documents, solution architecture, design specifications, test plans & results, and deploy plans to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.  Execute or direct application development team tasks.  Support testing activities.  

  • Expert IT technical subject matter expert for Merchandise Allocation and Optimization portfolio.  Assist with escalated production support activities.  Manage non-production environments, applications, integrations, data needs for various development projects and infrastructure changes.   

  • Help define a technology and process improvement roadmap that maximizes IT and business performance and reduces total cost of ownership.   

 

Critical Skills & Experiences: 

  • 5+ years of application development experience 

  • Experience implementing integrations using Informatica, TIBCO and/or messaging technology 

  • Proficient with best practices around design, code quality, code control using Subversion, release management using Jenkins or similar tools 

  • Good working knowledge and experience with application architectures and design (SaaS, XML, SOAP, REST) 

  • Trim coding use and knowledge of Korn Shell Scripting and PL/SQL) 

  • Knowledge and experience with trim Relational Oracle Databases schema design, stored procedures, and developing queries with large volume of data preferred. 

  • Development experience with Oracle Retail RPAS (Assort/Item Plan, Merchandise Financial Plan) application
