For 9 weeks as a Merchandising/Planning & Allocation Intern at our Home Office in Plano, Texas, you will gain a basic understanding of each phase of the merchandising process. You will be assigned to a Merchandise Action Team (MAT) which includes Buying, Planning and Allocation, and given various projects to facilitate your learning. Our goal is to immerse you in all aspects of buying and planning and show you what it is like to be a part of the JCPenney team. At the end of the program, you will present a project showcasing your understanding of the buying and planning process to senior leadership. Upon completion, if you have what it takes to be a part of the JCPenney team, you may receive an offer for the full-time Business Analyst Trainee position in our home office post-graduation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend the end-to-end process and product lifecycle
  • Understand the proper hand-offs between Merchandising and Planning & Allocation
  • Shadow training partners to observe daily activities, procedures, and processes
  • Participate in weekly Merchandise Action Team meetings and events
  • Apply critical thinking to problem-solve and recommend solutions to drive business results
  • Build relationships with cross-functional team members
  • Take initiative to execute assigned case study project with minimal guidance

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

  • Current college junior status
  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Major in Fashion Merchandising or Business
  • Desire to move to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area
  • Outstanding leadership, communication and time management skills
  • Ability to recognize, analyze and quantify market trends
  • Ability to collaborate and be a strong team member
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • This position is available only to individuals who are eligible to work for JCPenney in the United States. JCPenney will not sponsor individuals for immigration benefits for this role.
