Job description: 

JCPenney is looking for a passionate, results-oriented Infrastructure Automation Engineer to support our rapidly evolving and expanding Technology – Infrastructure Operations team.This team is highly engaged with the Infrastructure operations across network, platform, storage, backup & tools landscape for the enterprise. In an agile/fast-paced environment, Automation function involves investigation and analysis of Technology Operations & Support functions; identify Automation opportunities for various Infrastructure support teams to create automated solutions which are of small to medium scale. 

The objective of this role is to design, implement and support automation solutions based on detailed understanding of user needs by researching and evaluating complex technology infrastructure. Position also involves analysing the open source automation tools and framework and completing POC’s to bring the best of new technologies into JCPenney Infrastructure. 

We are looking for a candidate with experience in Infrastructure Automation using Python, Ansible and Power Shell across Windows and Linux Platforms and has worked in an Agile methodology. This individual will be part of several important initiatives to deliver efficiency to the organization by identifying and implementation of Automation across various Infrastructure functions. As an Automation Engineer, you will be integral to the invention and innovation process. We strive to produce scalable solutions, and you will need to drive creation and perfection of automated frameworks 

The successful candidate should have outstanding communication and strong technical troubleshooting skills. He/She will report into the Sr. Manager, Monitoring & Development Tools. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with users to design, implement, analyse and modify systems for various Infrastructure components 

  • Perform analysis, write program specifications and develop automation solutions. 

  • Meaningful experience in establishing automated frameworks using modern CI/CD tools 

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for automation solutions. 

  • Respond to user requests for assistance. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolves system issues. 

  • Contributing toward predictable delivery model 

  • Good understanding of Agile, Cloud and DevOps methodologies 

  • Develop solutions and make decisions that impact projects and staff members. 

  • Work as a team member on large, highly complex technical projects 

  • Experience working in a microservices architecture on cloud-hosted solutions 

  • Adaptive to ambiguity and willing to change in an Agile environment 

  • Perform technical evaluation of third party software products and emerging Automation related technologies 

  • Understand end to end Infrastructure and associated business processes 

  • Ensure improvement opportunities including automation and aggregation are identified to improve overall stability of various Infrastructure components 

  • Automate upgrade and patching activities across Infrastructure minimizing technical debt within environment 

  • Assist with the creation of training materials, development activities and automation practices to advance team capacity. 

  • Drive and foster innovation with toolset to increase team productivity, and deliver faster. 

  • Delivery of bug fixes and operational break fixes seen within the environment 

  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to various Automation initiatives. including operational processes and procedures. 

  • Monitor service requests and work orders for the group and ensure they are addressed in a timely manner 

  • Assist in troubleshooting production issues by providing insight into system health 

  • Assist in inventory and asset management in cloud, data centres and office locations 

  • Recommend best practices, tools, dashboards and other interfaces to further mature the JCP enterprise infrastructure automation capabilities. 

  • Analyzes production processes, identifies and makes recommendations for automation system upgrades and associated process enhancements to improve efficiency, increase capacity, support sustainability 

  • Gathers requirements for automation business process improvements 

  • Identifies and resolves root causes of problems with automation systems 

  • Designs, develops, implements, automates and maintains production reporting systems and 

  • Develops and delivers training on automation skills and on operating procedures for automation systems. 

Core Competencies & Accomplishments: 

  • At least 5-7 years' experience with Automation skills across multiple hardware platforms, integrated information management and monitoring systems. 

  • Highly driven, energetic, flexible, resourceful & ability to multitask 

  • Clarity of thought and vision 

  • Strong and Hands on Scripting skills using Power Shell and Python in Windows & Linux Platforms 

  • Experience in developing playbooks using Ansible 

  • Experience in creating CD/CI pipeline using GitHub, Jenkins 

  • Experience in orchestration tools/framework such as Chef/Puppet 

  • Experience in working on JIRA user stories 

  • Experience with ITSM tools, such as BMC Remedy 

  • Experience Designing and supporting automation solutions 

  • Strong understanding on evolving technology landscape especially around Infrastructure tools and platforms 

  • Strong background in programming concepts 

  • Good understanding of Windows Server 

  • Good understanding of Linux file systems, processes, services, and permissions 

  • Experience with private cloud platforms such as Openstack, AWS would be a plus 

  • Well-developed business communication skills – both written and verbal 

  • Ability to naturally facilitative approach to problem solving 

  • Strong personal prioritization and time management 

  • Broad understanding of IT concepts and architectures - Retail/business experience preferred 

  • Experience performing production & end user support 

  • Good attitude, Creative thinking skills, go - getter and ability to grasp new skills in a minimal turnaround time. 

  • Detail-oriented 

  • Motivated self-starter capable of working on individual tasks as well as team-oriented tasks. 

  • Good problem solving and analytical skills 

  • Excellent communication skills, written skills, presentation and verbal skills 

  • Ability to work well in a Global environment
