Sr. Manager - Platform

Job description 
JCPenney is looking for a thoroughly experienced, hands- on, results-oriented Technical Manager to support the  rapidly evolving and expanding Platforms team.  

We are seeking a highly self-motivated leader with a passion for people and technology. The ideal candidate has experience as a Platform leader who will be a member of the JCP Support and Operations leadership team. In this role, you will oversee the maintenance and support our OS platform to efficiently and effectively fulfill business objectives. This includes troubleshooting of the application and participation in reviews / inspections, debugging and maintenance of systems in production. Finally, the Sr. Manager mandates are often linked to complex problems for which he must be able to guide realistic estimates and creative solutions around MiddlewareWindows/VDI, Unix/Linux, O365, Endpoints and Store Stability. 

Critical Primary Responsibilities: 

1.                   Lead and Manage a Team of Professionals that provide Platform support to ensure availability and uptime of systems 

2.                   Lead and guide technical investigations for incoming cases to reach resolutions in a timely manner. 

3.                   Prioritize, schedule, and administer all instances where enhancements and defect resolution are required. 

4.                   Record and track to closure the problem-solving process,and actions taken, through to final resolution (wiki). 

5.                   Communicate Platform problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams and end users. 

6.                   Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent repeated future problems. 

7.                   Test fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems have been adequately resolved. 

8.                   Define clear and precise specifications for engineers from problem/bug reports. 

9.                   Review new releases, upgrades and migration 

10.               Collaborate closely with SPAD, Ops Center, Monitoring and Engineering teams to diagnose and document new issues that require development. 

11.               Train and Coach the Team on various attributes including Technology needed for Effective Delivery of Services 

12.               Consistent Engagement with Key Stakeholders- The Internal IT of the Enterprise, Various Departments and Field Offices- Participate to product discussions, projects, upgrades and establishment of requirements in various phases of enhancement, service improvements and projects 

13.               Full Lifecycle Management of Platform including (but not limited to):

·                     Instinctively integrate the security aspect into all the professional activities carried out within the company. 

·                     Deploy new or updated platform packages and devices. 

·                     Monitor and maintain application platform health and performance. 

·                     Timely Communication of OS Health to be applied including gaining Buy-ins / Agreement from the Applicable Stakeholders on timing of Changes 

·                     Introduction of Proactive Practices in Platform to ensure Compliance at all times, and to avoid ‘Changes’ during Peak Periods. Emerge as a Trusted Partner to all Stakeholders in the Vertical 

·                     Recommendation and Execution of Automation and User Empowerment (Self Service) practices as applicable 

·                     Reporting and Communication on platform health and performance, Success Ratio by various Dimensions like Departments, Technology Stack, Applications etc 

14.               Drive the Team towards greater degree of Motivation for high levels of Effectiveness and Efficiency 

15.               Participate in On-call as needed, Participate in Peak Period Coverage Activities as needed. 

16.               Ensure adherence to established processes and practices and propose improvements as may be applicable in the best interest of Technology Operations and Support there by Supporting Business Objectives

 Skills and Experience 

·                     Excellent knowledge of Linux operating systems (RHEL, CentOS). 

·                     Excellent knowledge of CentOS, PostgreSQL, JBOSS. 

·                     Good experience with TCP/IP protocol and low-level network troubleshooting (VPN/IPSEC, etc.). 

·                     Experience with different elements ensuring network security (firewalls, proxies, etc.). 

·                     Knowledge of the programming languages used (Perl, Python, SQL, Bash). 

·                     Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. 

·                     Very strong customer service orientation. 

·                     Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentational skills. 

·                     Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

 Qualification Criteria 

·                     Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field 

·                     12+ years and above experience in Platform support with various flavors of OS 

·                     Management/ Leadership Experience of 5 Years 

Experience of working in a Retail – Fast Paced, US Headquartered Company would be a Plus
