Engineer 1 – Merchandise Allocation & Optimization

The Engineer 1 will report to Sr. Manager – Merchandise Allocation & Optimization will be part of the team that is responsible for Application portfolio management and development that focuses on building and configuring software solutions for the Merchandise Allocation and Optimization systems. This entails:(1) Partnering with senior leadership in, building and implementing technology solutions to solve complex business problems. (2) Actively managing the on-going health and supportability of the portfolio in alignment with IT Ops & Support, (3) Developing high availability, high volume systems to support the Merchandising portfolio. (4) Partnering with other IT and business teams to deliver end to end technology solutions for JCPenney. The team provides IT solutions to JCP Merchandising Operations and Product Development and Sourcing business teams. 

Critical Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Participates in all phases of the software development lifecycle to build technical solutions for small to medium complex efforts, including being able to coordinate sourcing of new hardware/software, adhere to security & compliance and partner with shared services to achieve the business objectives and goals. 

  • Partners with team to drive resolution and process improvements to further minimize impact to our production environment and support business partners. Documents all key processes to further drive performance. 

  • Work closely with the business partners, business analysts on the team to develop and deliver technical solutions adhering to business requirements. 

  • Strong time management and problem solving skills. 

  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle. 

  • Be capable of independently providing input to both high and low level designs. 

  • Ability to successfully work under tight project deadlines. 

  • Experience in supporting and working within virtual or remote teams is a plus. 

Critical Skills & Experiences: 

  • 3+ year experience in 

  • ASP .NET, MVC Architecture 

  • C#, Visual Basic, SQL 

  • OS: Windows 

  • Database: SQL Server, Oracle 

  • Code Version Control like Subversion, GIT, etc. 

  • 2+ years of experience in .Net implementation, development & customization 

  • Experience in upgrading .Net versions 

  • Good programming knowledge is a must 

  • Basic knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows etc.) is expected 

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 

  • Finely-tuned analytic and creative skills for problem solving and suggesting alternatives 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering 

  • Experienced with the following (Nice to have): 

  • SQL Server Tools – SSIS and SSRS 

  • WebFocus/Report Caster – Ability to maintain FEX code 

  • File Transfer technologies like Connect Direct 

  • Job Scheduling Tools like ESP or Control M 

  • Other OS: Unix
