Primary Responsibilities:

• Ownership of standard accounting processes including fiscal close, journal entries, and reconciliations
• Analyze complex financial discrepancies and resolve
• Solve and escalate accounting issues to management
• Leadership of specific accounting projects and initiatives
• Develop and maintain relationships with key partners throughout the company including Finance, Tax, Audit, Financial Planning, Merchandise Planning & Allocation, and Supply Chain
• Recommend and implement actions to reduce business costs
• Perform root cause analysis and streamline processes
• Work cross-functionally with other areas of the company and various levels of management
• Compile data to support financial forecasting
• Own key financial and accounting controls
• Partner with IT regarding system changes to ensure accounting policy compliance
• Provide guidance and support for all key functions within the department
• Develop and enhance metrics and other reporting as needed
• Assist in training of new associates

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

• Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Business or Operations Management, or similar (Preferred)
• 2-3 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Required)
• US work authorization (Required)
• Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent critical thinking, analytical and decision-making skills
• Intermediate to advanced ability with Microsoft Office Tools, including Excel
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
• Detailed and organized to prioritize work effectively
• Proactive in setting goals and achieving results
• Eager to learn and willing to take on new initiatives
• Desire to advance in one's career with JCPenney
