Principal Engineer - Digital Engineering

JC Penney is undergoing a significant transformational change and we are looking for someone to bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to help us in this journey. As the most senior individual contributor to the Digital Organization, you are someone who has experience working through organizational changes, has in depth experience with the product operating model and know what it means to shift to a DevOps model of development and ownership. You are deeply technical but know how to use that knowledge to help guide technical direction for a large digital organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

• You are a force multiplier helping less experience engineers' level up
• Key contributor to technology strategy
• Keep the digital organization up to date on the latest technology trends and techniques
• Work directly with four in a box leadership, Product, UX, Engineering and Architecture to ensure that design and implementation follows published guidelines or alternatively develop new emerging guidelines to achieve expected outcomes
• Ensure that product teams are following industry engineering best practices through evaluation and continuous improvement
• Lead research and design efforts, working directly with architecture to design and build solutions
• Help evaluate and suggest improvements for product team solution designs
• Ensure that job descriptions and job families for individual contributors align with industry best practices
• Represent the JC Penney organization by presenting achievements locally and/or nationally

• Extraordinarily strong leadership skills and communication skills, able to lead through influence
• Thought leader regarding the software development lifecycle practices ensuring quality outcomes
• Strong belief in the power of mentorship for individual contributors at all levels of the organization
• Experience working with organizations to provide role clarity for individual contributor roles
• Understand the value in continually bringing in entry level associates to an organization
• Expert in industry practices as it relates to building highly performant web scale experiences
• Experience developing high availability applications in a cloud platform
• Experience with all portions of our tech stack
