Director Campaign Strategy - Marketing (Customer Strategy)

The (Director Campaign Strategy) will support and assist VP Customer Strategy with, research, insights and data anlysis to develop customer insight for the crafting of effective marketing and creative briefs. This role will serve as an integral part in defining and planning seasonal campaign strategies and overall creative inspiration for the JCPenney brand and private label brands. The role will work with marketing strategy, product marketing, customer, data and analytics, reserarch, creative, and marketing channel teams (email, social, media, site etc) to apply consumer insights, marketing strategy, and performance projections to our campaigns. The role requires strong planning skills, with the ability to manage many moving pieces while partnering across teams, from merchandising to creative production.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategic seasonal and campaign-specific briefs (and for private label brands, services or as needed) that inspire marketing and creative solutions to meet business goals and performance metrics
  • Own and maintain the calendar of seasonal briefings to provide cross-functional visibility and ensure content, data and insight integration is efficient and effective
  • Generate research needs and leverage research (primary, secondary and desk), and data to generate rich, inspiring and meaningful customer insights that bring to life the customer world and zeitgeist of our times.
  • Identify new platforms and content opportunities to engage our customers as a part of understanding the customer and how we can influence them
  • Work with Marketing Strategy, Operations, and Creative teams to support the strategic content creation timelines and ensuring full utilization of content assets
  • Apply the JCP Matrix and other frameworks for strategic prioritization of trends/brands and opportunities in content planning and enforce prioritizations across marketing activations
  • Deliver customer insights informed by competitors' marketing and content strategies
  • Support the communication of campaign strategies to leaders and colleagues
  • Operate like and an internal creative strategy consultant to the marketing teams
  • Be a great leader helping to coach, grow and support your team and others.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • 10 years or more of experience in Marketing, Brand Strategy, and Content Planning, with at least five in an agency creative strategy role
  • Adept at briefing creative and marketing teams with clear case studies
  • Experience and skills in briefing and commissioning customer and consumer research
  • Strong creative and strategic thinker who has the ability to problem-solve and distill information to insight
  • Strong analytical skills, qualititaive and quantitative
  • Experience in retail marketing and advertising or consumer goods via a D2C model considered valuable
  • Undergraduate degree in Pshychology. Sociology, Marketing, or Communications
