We are seeking a Lead Engineer for our Windows and Active Directory platforms who is ready to step in and assist JCPenney with the future design and continued improvement of our infrastructure environment.  This role will work closely with our associates in the business and our peers in other infrastructure engineering disciplines to help us continually move forward with the progress of the technology landscape.



  • Design and implement agile infrastructure solutions that take advantage of technology advances that allow cost reduction, standardization and commoditization
  • Identify and implement standard toolsets to reduce complexity and support operational goals for increasing automation across the enterprise
  • Understand the infrastructure provisioning and management tools landscape, vendor roadmaps and industry trends, evaluate tools releases, upgrades, fixes and patches, plan and deploy
  • Design, implement, and integrate solutions that ensure reliability, elasticity and security
  • Play a key role in defining the future technology architecture and develop roadmaps of the systems, platforms and/or processes for the company across disciplines
  • Own and drive multiple simultaneous projects within the portfolio through close coordination with business partner teams, as well as other IT teams and external vendors
  • Drive down costs through technical innovation and automation
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to other engineers and architects across the organization
  • Provide standards documents to support teams establishing procedures and associated benchmarks for the support of infrastructure technology
  • Collaborate with peers across both shores to ensure proper configuration according to standard practices, and continue to evolve with current security practices
  • Drive large and complex solutions, including coordinating sourcing of new hardware/software with Procurement, licensing & maintenance strategy, budgeting and forecasting, portfolio metrics, change management, security & compliance and partnership with shared services to achieve business objectives and goals
  • Interface with key vendors to layout strategic direction and incorporate into functional roadmaps
  • Work with vendors and track release and EOL dates to ensure roadmaps provide guidance for maintaining a supportable infrastructure
  • Provide highest level of expertise for the development and/or specification and/or implementation of technical solutions

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication (oral and written), action oriented, and strong analytical/problem solving abilities
  • Experience working in large environments and as part of an engineering team (onsite/offshore model)
  • Ability to participate in strategic process discussions/technology roadmap discussions and act as an agent for organizational change across the IT organization
  • Must be self-managed, responsive, and dedicated to success
  • Subject matter expertise in Active Directory administration: creating and managing forests and domains, performing schema changes, developing best practices and standards for AD object administration, establishing security baselines, preparing disaster recovery strategies, managing group policy, understanding Kerberos and Windows authentication, performing routine maintenance and support
  • 8+ years of experience in Windows administration across the following Windows Server versions: 2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019
  • Advanced experience with DNS, DHCP, load balancing
  • Proficiency with both Hyper-V and VMware virtualization
  • Strong PowerShell scripting skills
  • Proven experience with server hardware and compute platforms
  • Exposure and working experience on converged and hyperconverged infrastructure solutions (Nutanix, VxRail, HyperFlex, etc.)


Desired Skills:

  • Exposure on Docker/containerization/Kubernetes administration
  • Familiarity with LAN/WAN technologies and clear understanding of basic network concepts/services
  • Familiarity with RHEL
  • Scripting: PowerShell, Python, Javascript, Perl, Shell scripting
  • Automation: Ansible, Chef, Puppet, CloudForms, SCCM
  • Experience with public cloud/hybrid cloud/private cloud solutions
