Senior Front End Engineer - Performance

Have you used your front-end performance knowledge to create a frictionless experience, resulting in customer delight? Do you enjoy teaching others about performance and showing them how to use tools to measure the impact of performance changes? If so, this role is a tremendous opportunity to be part of the team that is tasked with generating the same outcomes for JC Penney.

In this role you will promote performance standards and best practices. You will provide guidance to other software engineers on how to achieve those standards. You will be a subject matter expert for teams on how to implement, monitor, and maintain continuous performance integration testing of the tech stack.

Implement and enforce engineering best practices using modern standards and patterns. Review unit test plans, tests, and code coverage to ensure high quality delivery. Implement engineering excellence by enforcing regular code reviews, continuous integration, high test code coverage, on-going code refactoring and adequate documentation. Architect and develop a scalable and maintainable website by creating self-contained, reusable, and testable Modules and Components.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Strong hands-on experience with React.js
  • Strong hands-on experience with Redux and Redux Saga
  • Strong hands-on experience working on the latest ReactJs hooks using functional components
  • Strong JavaScript/ES6 expertise
  • Strong hands-on experience in building front-end applications using server-side rendering/client-side rendering techniques with React and Node JS.
  • Good Knowledge of core frontend web vitals like LCP, FCP, TBT TTI etc.
  • Strong hands-on experience in profiling web pages using any of the popular performance tools like Google Lighthouse, Webpage Speed Test, Chrome Devtools etc.
  • Strong hands-on experience in advanced react frontend performance techniques
  • Strong experience in web pack and webpack performance optimizations
  • Experience in building front-end applications using Micro frontend architecture
  • Experience in building high-performant, heavy-traffic sites using JS Frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.Js, etc.)
  • Ability to write clean, modular, reusable code (using atomic design pattern) and experience with unit-test driven approach to development
  • Strong Experience with Tailwind CSS and Post CSS
  • Knowledge of build tools (Webpack, Gulp, Grunt) and Continuous Deployment (Jenkins, Travis) is nice to have
  • Work experience in Agile Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with Adaptive/Mobile First Responsive Design Principles
  • Familiarity with Data Structures, Algorithms, and general Computer Science Fundamentals

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • 5+ years' experience in Retail eCommerce
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Critical thinking skills, courageous
  • Results-oriented with strong leadership and collaboration skills
  • Ability to build trust and drive change.
