Senior Manager - User Experience (UX) / Product Design

The Senior Manager - User Experience (UX) / Product Design leads a team of UX Product Designers in the delivery of JCPenney's digital product portfolio and owns individual performance management, cross-org relationship management, and awareness and advocacy of a customer-centric solution mindset.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a team of mid to senior-level UX Designers in their growth and development as individual designers and as a team.
  • Coach team in partnering and collaborating successfully across the org, especially across Product and Engineering, to optimize the value and impact of their contributions.
  • Foster a curiosity around customer problems and business opportunities to identify and prioritize where and how UX shows up.
  • Close collaborator with UX Research and Insights team leveraging the value of customer data.
  • Help identify new areas of UX value and push the capabilities of the team to deliver on that value.
  • Visual facilitator & storyteller comfortable leading inter-team discovery sessions.
  • Co-own and maintain customer journey-based artifacts critical to understanding our work in the larger context of customer shopping experiences.
  • Effective relationship builder comfortable growing and nurturing connections across the company to ensure strong relationships are in place wherever UX can add value.
  • Expert facilitator of design reviews providing constructive, actionable feedback that helps designers work through challenges while helping them grow.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • 7+ Years of experience with 3+ years' experience managing teams and direct reports in User Experience (UX) / Product Design.
  • Superior relationship building with cross-functional teams to deliver results through excellent partnership, communication and negotiating skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in evaluating visual and interaction design and identifying opportunities to improve the digital experience.
  • Ability to structure problems and use quantitative and qualitative skills to deliver intuitive, logical recommendations.
  • Proven ability to inspire and coach individual contributors as they work across the organizations to produce tangible results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within and across teams.
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced environment.
  • Retail ecommerce experience highly desirable.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
